In my opinion today's society is moving away from the paternalistic family. There are more and more single-parent homes led by mothers, as well as women having equal say in the two-parent homes.

These will be due Wed. instead of Tues. due to the late posting.

POOR LAWS: English statutes that allowed the courts to appoint overseers for destitute and neglected children, allowing placement of these children as servants in the homes of the affluent.

CHILD SAVERS: Nineteenth-century reformers who develop programs for troubled youth and influenced legislation creating the juvenile justice system; today some critics view them as being more concerned with control of the poor than with their welfare.

STATUS OFFENSE: Conduct that is illegal only because the child is underage.

VICTIMIZATION: A person who has suffered direct, or threatened, physical, emotional, or financial harm as a result of being the target of a criminal act.

It is my opinion that a lot of criminals could be off the street if it was not do to a lot of witnesses and potential eye witnesses becoming victims of victimization. Many witnesses have refused to testify in court about seeing crimes committed because they do not want to become the target of a criminal act and the end result is that another criminal has been set free.

I believe that Paternalistic families really dont exist, as much as, they did when my mother was a child. My husband and I have contol together. We compromise with each other when we dont see eye to eys on certain aspects like; how are children are raised, how we spend money etc... Being a single mother for 09 years, I know personlly that paternalistic families are not so prevalent in society. Those type of families hinders free speech, creativity and one from being their self

1) Most students by the time of high school graduation develop a sense of their own ego identity, with the idea of becomming successful adults with promising careers and goals.

2)Young adults are greatly influenced by movies, music and etc...I believe this develops role diffusion which the child has problems sorting fact from fiction.

victimization: a person who has suffered direct,or threatened, physical, emotional, or financial harm as a result of being the target of a criminal act.

The juvenile justice system is in deep trouble when it comes to the rehabilitation of our youth. my personal affiliation with the juvenile system was not successful at all it failed me and my child. the things tht the judge ordered him to do was not enforced by his probation officer. He just did a little community service a was done. i believe that this was a disservice to him because he did not learn from his mistakes and was not held accountable and I had to pay a fine. In other words the child gets off and the parents has to pay. i believe that the system needs to be evaulated so that the focus remains on the youth and their accountability and not the crime alone.

QUESTIONS #2

I think all teenagers need to respect the basic ground rules that their parents set for them, including curfews. Teenagers have no business being out all night. City mandated laws are specifically important and in some instances I do believe that they work and that they should be enforced at every level of the law. Sure if a juvenile is going to commit a crime, they are going to do so regardless, but by having curfew laws and having them being enforced 100%, I do feel that it would reduce some of the crimes committed by teens that are allowed to hang out at all hours of the night. What’s so hard to understand, it keeps kids out of trouble. If they just allowed them to roam around all hours of the night, more kids would get hurt and do more stupid stuff. The only people who oppose it are teens who do the stupid stuff. Anyone in their right mind would support teen curfew laws. Applying curfew laws have actually increased juvenile crime rates. Teens begin to associate police officers with the curfew, and police officers begin to see any minor that is in violation of curfew as a criminal. This tension may lead to crimes being committed by those who may not normally break laws.

Question #6
YES!!!! Because the punishment that a juvenile receive for a particular crime is not the same punishment or as harsh a punishment than what an adult would receive for the same crime.

Status Offense: Conduct that is illegal only because the child is underage.

In my opinion when juveniles continue to commit status offenses, their punishment should be a more severe with each occurrence.

Child Savers: Nineteenth-century reformers who develop programs for troubled youth and influenced legislation creating the juvenile justice system; today some critics view them as being more concerned with control of the poor than with their welfare.

Victimization: A person who has suffered direct, or threatened, physical, emotional, or financial harm as a result of being the target of a criminal act.
